earlier a thread emerged, as they do so often, on whether or not god existed.
i stated that he does, unequivocally and without doubt.
i refused to preface the statement with the phrase "i believe".
Self-righteous, table for one.
recently i got the winter edition magazine of the ontario skeptic news and found a great six page article on "can a skeptic believe in god?
and what a great read it was, some of the points were well versed.
it went into some detail of believers and non believers arguing about god, what i found interesting was how at the end of the argument both sides would have felt they had won the argument.
By definition, the word skeptic means to tend to doubt, not neccesarily to doubt entirely or always...so it's not the self-evident question that I initially thought it was :)

Love_Truth, your statement does not come across as relating to a fraction of the total number of unbeleivers... it comes across as relating to a fraction of the population as a whole, comprising all unbelievers. If that's not what you meant, maybe you need to work on your communication skills.

Obviously Loves_TheSoundOfHisOwnVoice believes in the pissed-off god of the OT and not the hippie-love god of the NT.
You're not the only person in the world who can read, you arrogant ass. I see why you had to take all those years of Gold Gloves... it must have been a survival mech, the way you make friends.
I certainly mean no disrespect to the UU's... I like hanging out there, actually. I just thought it would fit the theme for the day...

I was simply stating that I did not think of theists as arrogant or stupid. I still disagree with them... and please don't be offended by that, because there's no reason for you to be.

Boy, did somebody piss in your Wheaties today.
I don't think that theists are too arrogant or too stupid to overcome their belief in God... not most of them, anyway. I'm certain that there are a few sterling examples that peg the meter in at least one area...
Alan Watts wrote about a key difference that he perceived between Chinese and Western cultures: that Westerners tended to interpret the world as the result of someone's making, and the Chineseseemed to interpret the world as simply existing, without as much of a need to attempt to make it part of some large plan.
Whether or not his analysis of the Chinese is accurate, I don't know... but it's interesting to thihk about.
Wasn't there a Simpson's episode where they burned a question mark in the Unitarian's front yard?
